ROMA midfielder Ricardo Faty will start a trial at Blackburn Rovers next week as they are forced to play the waiting game in their search for a striker.

The French defensive midfielder is expected to meet up with Rovers at Brockhall in the next few days, once Sam Allardyce’s squad have returned from the Sydney Festival of Football.

Faty will be given a chance to impress, with a couple more trialists set to follow, and is expected to feature in one of Rovers’ games in Scotland next weekend, either against Hearts on Saturday or Celtic on the Sunday.

Faty, 23, made his Champions League debut for the Italian giants back in 2006 when he man-marked Brazilian ace Rivaldo in his side’s 1-0 win over Olympiacos.

He made 19 appearances in his first season in Serie A, being dubbed ‘the new Patrick Vieira’ in some quarters, before spending the next two seasons on loan with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and French outfit Nantes.

The Frenchman is now eyeing a route out of Roma, after limited first team opportunities, and will arrive at Brockhall on Monday, with several other clubs interested in him.
