Former Blackburn Rovers boss set for Fulham job

FORMER Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes looks set for a return to the Premier League with Fulham.

Although the Cottagers stopped short of confirming Hughes was their choice, the former Manchester City manager has been widely tipped to become the successor to Roy Hodgson.

Hughes, 46, who was sacked by Manchester City last December, is understood to have reached an agreement with Fulham with an announcement now expected within the next 48 hours.

A spokesperson for the west London club said: "I can confirm that we are hopeful of an announcement within the next 24/48 hours."

Bookmakers installed Hughes as firm favourite to land the job after Fulham lost out in their bid to prise Martin Jol away from Ajax.

The expected arrival of Hughes will almost certainly be followed by a reshuffle of the backroom staff at Craven Cottage.

First-team coach Ray Lewington, currently caretaker manager following Hodgson's departure to Liverpool, is expected to link-up with him again on Merseyside.

Goalkeeping coach Mike Kelly could also leave for Liverpool with Hughes expected to bring in his own regular backroom staff that includes Mark Bowen, Kevin Hitchcock and Eddie Niedzwiecki.

What u on about grow up for god sake. I say good luck to Hughes at the end day he was a very good manager for us. Ok he left for City because they had they money you cant blame him at the end of day we was and still are strauggling with cash. About time some one took another chance on him would love him back at Rovers.

Can't understand why people give Hughes any grief. He was a very good manager for us, brought in some very good players for next-to-nothing, and gave us European football and took us within a MGP header of an FA Cup Final.

I don't hold anything against him leaving for City - he'd probably gone about as far as he could at Rovers and saw that the money situation wasn't going to change and with a number of players getting older or running out of contract, it was going to be hard to rebuild all over again.

It didn't work out for him at City, but I'm surprised it has taken him this long to get back into the game. Fulham are a perfect team for him - similar to Rovers - which will allow him to rebuild his reputation. As others said, I'd love him back at Rovers in the future.

Agree with most of the comments good manager for Rovers who got us up to top 6/7 - but times have changed and top 10 last season was a great achievement.
Expect him to buy/loan RSC, Bellamy, Ireland from City - also get ready for a bid for Samba.....

I think Liverpool would have been better off with Hughsey. Hodgson is a good coach and the style of footy he tries to play isn't bad...but he couldn't handle a Premier club the size of Rovers so he's going to be be way out of his depth at Liverpool. He's fine as an international manager or on the continent where he is just a coach..In this role I think he'll struggle. Still you've got to like the guy, especially his post match interviews, my fave being his comment about "They switched to a fwee pwonged attack so they were opawating a twident" ..cheap shot...but amusing
