BLACKBURN Rovers are considering attempting to hijack Sunderland’s protracted move for Tottenham’s Darren Bent as they continue their search for a ‘proven Premier League’ striker.
With around £13million in his transfer kitty, Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is contemplating making a move for the unsettled Bent in the belief he fits the bill as a worthy Roque Santa Cruz replacement.
Rovers are yet to launch an official bid for the former Charlton man but are aware of his situation and are poised to swoop should Sunderland continue to delay their efforts in the transfer market.
Steve Bruce’s Sunderland remain favourites to land Bent, with new owner Ellis Short bolstering their financial clout, but sources from the north east club have indicated they remain reluctant to provide Spurs with immediate cash flow.
Both clubs have Manchester City’s Richard Dunne, Portsmouth’s Peter Crouch and Paraguayan defender Paulo Da Silva in their sights but Spurs are understood to need the money from Bent’s transfer to step up their hunt for fresh blood.
Sunderland therefore are reluctant to boost their rivals’ coffers, leaving Rovers the chance to step in and take advantage of their continued stalling.
With Bent seemingly not set to figure in Harry Redknapp’s plans next season at White Hart Lane, he remains keen on a fresh start and is believed to be growing increasingly frustrated at the current inactivity.
Sunderland were understood to have been close to an £8million deal for Bent last season and it is believed that figure again would be enough to capture the services of the England striker.
Rovers would not be prepared to enter a bidding war with Bruce’s Sunderland though, knowing the Wearsiders have vast financial resources, but are monitoring the situation closely.
Should Allardyce’s Bent chase prove fruitless, he may be forced to turn his attention to the foreign market and a list of potential targets he has already drawn up.

I can see sam bringing in a few free transfers in. we have £13million, i dont think money for givet came out of that as that was agreed before the sale of roque n derbs and so far we have spent £400,00 on N'Zonzi so leaving us 12.6million. Bent £8m Vieri (if he impresses) Free Transfer Di Santo Loan and like i said i can see a couple of free transfers and hopefully a cretive midfielder although if dunn stays fit we have a good creative midfielder in him

This meant out of the previous years 13,000 some 6,000 had not renewed at that point. So for 14,500 to be true at least 3 or 4 thousand existing ST's would not have renewed and that sounds a lot.
i think darren bent would be a great signing. i think sam could get the best out of him. he's gona cost at least 8million tho so i thinnk sam wont go for beattie but get di santo on loan and look to strengthen elsewhere
also i dont see how we can only have sold 14500 season tickets. when you look on the one rovers website the blackburn end and riverside are sold out and there are plenty of season tickets sold in the Jack Walker stand. any offical word on season tickets sales?

The club are only advertising the Darwen End in the LET today and not the other stands - still that stupid £150 for 15 games though! security "most-ever" - if that's a Omen we could break teh record near 20,000 ST's in 1996! 31st....

I emailed the ticket office half en hour ago and recieved a swift reply at this moment in time we have sold 14,600 season tickets,I find this a very poor response and blows away any arguments about the Darwen end and does not auger well for an increase in the transfer budget.I think the one pice fits all in the riverside has meant existing ticket holders have moved to the centre.
