No Blackburn Rovers move for Crouch or Zaki

BLACKBURN Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has distanced himself from a move for Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch.

“Peter Crouch we haven’t made the enquiry this season because we think it is probably out of our reach and bigger clubs than us will probably take him if Portsmouth decide to sell him," said Allardyce.

The Rovers boss emphatically ruled out a rumoured move for Wigan’s Amr Zaki.

But Tottenham’s Darren Bent is still believed to be on Allardyce’s radar as he continues his search for ‘proven Premier League experience’, although the addition of a foreign striker appears increasingly likely.

“We are continuing, we are searching high and low," said Allardyce.

"We have nothing nailed on at the moment but we are trying very, very hard.

"I just want to secure the front man first and see where we go from then, with regards other players.

“We have got many opportunities throughout Europe for players that are available and we just have to make sure it is the right one.”

I think bent would be good, hes quick and he can score, think he gets little chance at tottenham though

I agree Bent would be ideal. He has pace, which would compliment well with McCarthy. He is proven in the Premiership and when picked regularly would get us the 10-15 goals a season we need. He is also good in the air and can play up front on his own. IF we could get him I would be very pleased, but it's a big if.

Striker wise, I think Sam should try one of the following:

- Bent, could be too expensive though.
- Martins, could be bought for 6 million?
- Tuncay?

And then the list goes slightly blank!

I think bent could come for regular football which he doesn't get a tottenham

I'd love Bent at Ewood, bags of pace and good finisher - a good Roberts! I just worry we couldnt

a) afford him
b) his wages

and given Sunderland who have a bit of cash are sniffing, it could be a hard task. But if anyone can pull of the deal it's sam! Go get him Sam.

Dunno Boys, I read this as Sam playing the game. Pretty sure he knows who he wants but is playing it close. He may well be after Crouch but does not want to be pressured into spending all of the Cruz fund?
Never mind, at least we aint after RVN horsey boy or "Holiday" Zaki.

Read this on teletext first thing yesterday morning.

How is the Telegraph so far behind, and where is the real news? The inside information? Surely as a local paper they should have the best insight into the club? They always used to.

I used to always say that I only took notice of things in the press if it appeared in the telegraph. Not anymore.

They are too busy writing about a burnley players new car.

And why is it acceptable for Burnley fans and that sad act bolton fan to come on Rovers pages and post inane drivvel, while any Rovers fan posting anything remotely negative on a Burnley board is promptly removed.

Another thing that is getting on my nerves is the standard of some of the newer contributors on here.
Roll on the start of the season when the true blues are back in force!

The best way to deal with interlopers from other clubs is not to respond at all. It is a compliment to BRFC that they want to be seen on here but any negative input from them should be blanked.

I am convinced that Sam knows who he wants and is making the right noises to keep down the price. Crouch or Bent would be good in my opinion - thank goodness we are not interested in Zaki!

Hmmm Darren Bent?

No doubt a good signing if we could get him, but I have my doubts over him?

Not from ability, but his attitude? He gives me the impression that he feels he should be at a bigger club & always appears to be in a sulk?

Just a thought :)

Sam will get it right, this I'm sure of :)

Let's face it - none of them want to join you.

Miller 11 needs to have words with several of his inbred mates who are on the Burnley pages more than the Burnley fans. People in glass houses etc.

See if Simon Garner has finished slopping out and will come out of his cell and play again.

I think you'll find the cruz fund has GONE to keep the bank manager happy. Forget spending that ammount on re-enforcements.

Miller11 - Have you forgotten the date?

I looked out the window on Saturday and it was Hissing down after all the beautiful weather.
Then I realised its Dingle holidays! Oh no I thought - its that two weeks when they all go on holiday down to the library to use the computers for free and we will have to put up with much worse that Midas for the duration!

Role on Blackburn holidays and the sunshine!

I still think Sam is quietly angling for Crouch. Compliments in the press whilst waiting for Portsmouth to press the fire sale button. In all honesty I think the Walker family should back him if it comes down to only a £1m or two. We have just banked £21m in transfers and shifted about 9 big salaries off the wage bill. Also last season we made £7m profit and shifted Bentley and Brad and made a net £7m plus wages savings on them. I know we were a few million down with a lower finish and higher wages in the season just ended but we should be in a strong position to get a quality striker in both fee and wages and that is the key position we need to fill.

We also need a "Big Signing" to nudge those season tickets through the 20,000 barrier and crouch could be that man - I also think he would like to play for Big Sam.

Anyone got any interesting stories about what ex-rovers players are up to?? Simon Garner seems to keep his eye in with a bit of media work. What about people like Andy Kennedy, David Mail, Tony Diamond, Craig Skinner. In fact, forget the first question, just post random names of obscure ex-rovers players who played three of four games and then buggered off. We can then all sit back ond go 'oh yeah, I remember him....'.

Mogster - is there a transfer week or something when everything is frozen?

The club have not said how many ST's (if any) did not renew yet or have tried to transfer to a new seat. I am sure some extra tickets will be available when it is sorted.

I think we need that big signing to get a late rush this next month.

Spot on Dunc. Chris "Claret" Flanagan and Andy Cryer aren't fit to lace Andy Nield's boots, let alone the late great Peter White.

As for strikers, it's going to be James Beattie. His dad Mick told me so.

Dunno Morst. I expected to check on July 2nd and all the seats that didn't renew would be available but that didn't happen.

I know of one seat that didn't get renewed, my dad's seat who died in September, so I looked to see if his seat was now available and it wasn't - and then the website just said none available.

I think there is a problem they're not admitting to but to have removed the chance of selling any Season Tickets online for a period of days is scandelous!

You are definitely right about a big name signing (or 2), it would certainly get the juices flowing but they should wait until the website is back up :-)

''Blackburn are attempting to trump Sunderland’s bid for Tottenham striker Darren Bent.

Sam Allardyce is desperate to find some goal scoring power after the club lost Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City and £13 million he has to spend is believed to be enough to snare the 25-year old.''

Seen this on tribal, Sam also decided not to go to Austria to the training camp so it looks like something could be happening soon.

daily mirror claims - Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is ready to swoop for Sunderland's giant hit man Kenwyne Jones - if his pal Steve Bruce lands his big-money targets.

Allardyce fancies the Trinidad and Tobago striker as an ideal replacement for Roque Santa Cruz and hopes that Bruce is successful in his chase for Darren Bent and Peter Crouch to make the move possible.
