PAUL Ince insists Blackburn Rovers can only get better after he tasted a winning start to his Premier League managerial career.

Rovers turned in an impressive display at Goodison Park as they came from behind to beat Everton 3-2.

And with next Saturday’s home fixture against top-flight new-boys Hull just around the corner, Ince is already focusing on another three points.

“We have won at Everton and not many teams do that apart from the top four. It was a great achievement,” said the Rovers boss.

“The whole performance was fantastic, to come from behind twice and win was outstanding.

"I would have settled for a point at one stage.

“It’s the first game. It is 90 minutes - we can improve and get better.

“I don't want to put a downer on things, but we will get better.

"Let’s just enjoy the result and then we can focus on Hull City.”

Ince hailed his team after a terrific all-round performance against David Moyes’ men.

But he reserved special praise for David Dunn, who turned in a exceptional display in midfield and sent Rovers on their way with an exquisite 25-yard-goal.

Dunn was given licence to roam forward with Aaron Mokoena sitting deep, and Ince believes the former England international is relishing that role.

Ince said: "I thought Dunny was exceptional, as was Aaron to be fair. They both did ever so well.

"Last year, Sparky probably played him in a different role, a bit more defensive, but Dunny wants to go forward, he wants to make things happen.

"He creates space for himself and he can create a lot of chances for us.

"He showed that on Saturday on numerous occasions and I think he is excelling in his role. I think he enjoys it."

Wasn't there on Saturday so cannot comment on the performance of the axe. Hope he has learned how to pass a ball over the summer. Much prefer Vogel in that role but Ince doesn't seem to rate him. Good to see Dunny getting back to somewhere near his best.

I was as surprised as anyone that Mokoena played over Vogel, but he did play very well. He looked a completely different player to the one that had appeared under Hughes. He looked far more comfortable on the ball and was a bit more composed when making tackles too!

well said mj rover,

yes the axe did have a good game for us, and i am suprised i am saying it too, as lets be honest he could not pass a ball to his mum since he came to us, and was half a yard short in tackles, but he looked far more compossed, and assured in tackles, and did pas well, mybe he his enjoying football under ince, mybe the dressing room is better now than b4?? but i must admit vogel (when fit) is a good player, but saw him in pre season and he does not look in shape, mybe its age, ??

but ince says it can only get better, well come on down, it may only be one game but it will bread confidence to go to everton, and win,,,,,,,

so beware tigers. inces dogs of war are comming to bite your tails off,, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,, get down to the bookies lads all the pre season c,,p about us has given us great odds for matches, 3/1 sat give me a good weekend and i bet it will be the same against hull after there win sat, so go put a paket on the lads,

and lets all remember uncle jack today, ne one who really new him knows he will be willing ince on form the stand in the sky,, BIG FAT JACKS BLUE N WHITE BARMY ARMY,

your right spooky no it doesent,,,

but its a start, and to play aswell as the lads did in the first half bodes well for the future,, yes everton wr poor, but you can only play if your let?? and we stopped them playing, and we played a bit too,

last term if we went behind, how many times would you of said we will come back and win?? just like me not many,, ne one thats knows nethin bout footy could see the signs wr good on the park, yes it will take time to gel.. and there will be some downs too, but i really liked how we went about our work, fast, quick passing, neat, formations, one 2s, people getting into space, and dunny running the midfield,,, so only one swallow sat, but it brightend up my summer, well done the lads and the guv,,

Just been in stitches at Parachute jokes on Radio Lancs football hour.
Best ones -
1)The ref booked the Parachutist for descent!
2)The Red Arrows will now not charge for the display - that's the only parachute payment the Clarets will ever get!
3) Even a parachute can't stop the Clarets from desending to the bottom fast!

Alexis is confident Joaquin is happy at Valencia amid reports Blackburn Rovers have made an offer for the winger.

Joaquin has been strongly linked with a move to Ewood Park as Rovers boss Paul Ince searches for a replacement for David Bentley.

Reports in Spain have claimed that the Premier League club have lodged a bid in the region of 12million euros (£9.5million) for the 27-year-old.

Valencia's vice-president Fernando Gomez is tipped to meet Joaquin's agent on Tuesday to discuss the offer from Blackburn.

However, Joaquin's team-mate Alexis believes that the former Real Betis star, who was left out of Spain's Euro 2008 squad, is not looking to leave the Mestalla.

Cheerful
"In the dressing room he is always the same - cheerful," said Alexis in AS.

"I do not think we have any problems.

"He does not want to go, he is very happy in Valencia and I would not want him to leave because to have a person like him in the dressing room is a joy.

"I get along very well with him."

actually Blue Mark last term rovers were the team that gained the most points from a losing position- 23 in total...more than any other team, lets hope that the dogged, never-say-die attitude that Hughes fostered, is continued throughout Ince's reign (like we saw against everton on the weekend)...

...even better, lets hope that Ince along with winterburn can tighten things up at the back and give us a much needed solid defensive platform so that we are not forced to have to dig deep and come from behind every week! This hampered our season considerably last season, along with not killing off the poorer sides in the league.

I am thoroughly behind Ince and am glad to see Rovers yet again prooving the doubters wrong...early days yes, but there are promising signs for the forthcoming season....dunny hungry and reinvigorated, santa cruz off the mark and playing well, roberts industrious and incessant up front and even mokoena putting in an uncharacteristically accomplished performance...long may it continue!

Europe may well be a tall order, given the strength, depth and purchasing power of many sides now, but a top 10 finish must surely be the least we should be aiming for...playing like that week in-week out will surely be of no detriment to this cause!

I was at the game on Sat and admittidly Everton where a weak side, but on our 1st half performance we would have given a team in the top four a real game!

As for the team spirit, you would have thought we had won the FA cup final the way the players reacted after the game, so that can only bode well.

Dunny was the driving force throughout, always wanting the ball and trying to pick the kiler pass out (shades of Tugay in his play now).

I admit i wasn't particulary worried with the Ince appointment but the back room staff did have me pondering, but it's a results game, so no better start.

One last thing the talk of signing Joaquin is, if true, a quality addittion, i'm liking the fact that ince seems to spot the fact we lack a couple of flair players that can change a game, we have a squad of athletic grafters, so add to that with some pace and flair and we have a squad to rival the teams around us without a doubt and europe is a real chance for us!!!

Up the Blues!

ROVERS 'WHACK IN' JOAQUIN BID.

Blackburn have made a £9.5million bid for Valencia's Spain winger Joaquin, according to reports emanating from the Primera Liga.

Joaquin has been strongly linked with a move to Ewood Park as Rovers boss Paul Ince searches for a replacement for David Bentley.

Monday's rumour mill saw talk of Rovers lodging a bid in the region of 12million euros (£9.5million) for the 27-year-old.

It is also suggested Valencia's vice-president Fernando Gomez would meet Joaquin's agent on Tuesday to discuss the offer from Blackburn.

However, Joaquin's team-mate Alexis believes that the former Real Betis star, who was left out of Spain's Euro 2008 squad, is not looking to leave the Mestalla.

"He doesn't want to go, he's very happy in Valencia and I wouldn't want him to leave because to have a person like him in the dressing room is a joy.

"I get along very well with him."

God, i'm salivating at the prospect of Villanueva and Juaquin in our midfield!! :D

One thing Incey has done is recognised that Dunny is never a holding midfielder or a winger...that's one decision he's got right over Sparky and Souness!

I'm actually looking forward to Saturday now. If we add a good right winger from Joaquin, Pennant or if Vilenueava* makes his debut then we might just have some decent home performances with proper attacking play!!

Blackburn Rovers are thought to be close to completing the £4million transfer of Torino midfielder Vince Grella.

The Premier League side have previously expressed keen interest in Grella, who is in London this week to play for Australia against South Africa at QPR’s Loftus Road ground in a friendly international.

It is being reported that Grella will meet with Rovers boss Ince in the capital today.

A was apparently agreed between the two clubs on Monday, allowing Rovers to discuss personal terms with the 28-year-old Aussie.

Setanta Sports report that Fulham have also been interested in Grella, but that Blackburn are in pole position and could wrap up a deal before their weekend Premier League game at home to Hull City.

Setanta also suggest that Torino could use the money from Grella’s sale to make a bid for Manchester City's unsettled Italian striker Rolando Bianchi

and all because...

Blackburn Rovers will offer Valencia, through Joaquin's agent, 12 milion euros plus bonuses for the player. The offer will be very well received by the financially troubled Spanish club, but the player will turn down the move and say no to Blackburn.

Joaquin Sanchez became Valencia's most expensive signing when he joined the club in August 2006 for €25.0 million following a complex and protracted move from Real Betis. However, since switching to the Mestalla, the right winger has suffered a serious dip in form that ultimately cost him his place in the Spanish national squad for Euro 2008. He is now a pale shadow of the exciting winger who was once one of the most thrilling prospects in La Liga.

He recently asked for a new contract at Valencia but - after taking in to account the current situation at the club, along with his own form - Joaquin has since realised his mistake, and has now said that he wants to stay at Valencia: unless he receives a tempting offer from Spain.

He has made it clear that he does not wish to play abroad.
