TONY Mowbray doesn’t want the January transfer window to be a distraction to his side but says Rovers already have targets in mind.

Mowbray is keen to add more individuality to the squad with winger Harry Chapman sidelined for several months with a hamstring injury and the Ewood chief is in the process of overhauling the club’s scouting department.

And while he doesn’t feel Rovers will bear the fruits of that in this upcoming window, he says work is already ongoing to identify potential targets.

However, with a busy period of games coming up before the end of the calendar year, Mowbray says maintaining their good run of form is the most pressing matter.

“A lot of work has already been done,” Mowbray said of the January window.

“We have worked hard on trying to implement a recruitment department but I don’t think January is a time to judge that, I think that is too soon for us to take the rewards from that.

“But we are still working hard on players, I haven’t really started conversations with other clubs about players yet but that will happen.

“We know where we would like to strengthen, we know what we need to do and there are some players we would like to recruit and as the window approaches or we get in to the window whether we can get some business.

“At the minute we’re just focussing on getting the squad right for the next game and making sure the mentality stays strong going in to the next matches.”

Rovers head to the ABAX Stadium this afternoon to take on seventh-placed Peterborough United as they bid to make it five consecutive victories in the league.

And Mowbray added: “We’re in a positive place at the moment, we have a tough run of games, Peterborough away and then Charlton at home who are right up there in the top six is tough.

“We have a replay in the cup so we have to concentrate and focus on what is required and make sure we turn up at each game.”

Rovers have won each of their last three away games but Mowbray knows they face a tough test against Grant McCann’s Posh side.

And the boss is expecting a footballing game, but is hoping to pose the hosts plenty of problems having netted 11 times in their previous three away trips.

“I think it’s the only way that Grant knows how to play,” Mowbray said.

“He was a good footballer himself, nice left foot and good passer of the ball and played under (former Peterborough manager) Darren Ferguson.

“Having watched them they have individuals who are special talents, (Marcus) Maddison is a very talented young boy, (Gwion) Edwards on the other side of the pitch, their midfielders are good footballers so they are a good football team with obvious threats.

“But we will go there and be positive, do what we have been doing, play on the front foot and they will know what’s coming.

“We will see how the game unfolds but we will go there with a positive mindset and try and get another three points if we can.”
