ROVERS’ search for a new midfielder continues after missing out on a target.

Rovers were close to bringing in a midfielder player last week, understood to be West Bromwich Albion prospect Rakeem Harper.

However, Mowbray admits that deal has drifted away after the 17-year-old made his Premier League debut in the Baggies’ win over Bournemouth last weekend.

Mowbray remains keen on adding another option in the middle of the park to add competition to senior trio Richie Smallwood, Corry Evans and Peter Whittingham.

“I think it’s started to fall away,” Mowbray said.

“The young man has actually played in the Premier League since then.

“It’s probably drifted a little bit, yet at one stage it was going to get done the following morning.

“It didn’t happen, but the search continues.

“We have been watching players, in various position, and then I can make some calls and see of their availability and keep looking and searching.”
