DANNY Graham wants to give Rovers boss Tony Mowbray a selection headache on Saturday, and then fire his side nearer to Championship safety.

The striker returned to action off the bench in the 0-0 draw at Wolves last weekend after missing two games with a hip injury.

That knock was picked up moments after coming on at the start of April against Barnsley, his first game back following groin surgery during the international break.

But the joint top scorer insists he’s now back to somewhere near full fitness, and wants to prove it in the crucial clash with Aston Villa at Ewood Park.

“I’ve been doing extra sessions this week to hopefully give the gaffer a headache and get back in,” he said.

“I think it’s been five weeks where I haven’t played, but I got 30 minutes under my belt at Wolves and that will do me good.

“Hopefully I’ll do a couple of extra sessions this week and get myself back in the side.”

Graham was in good form before picking up his injuries, scoring a superb opener against Manchester United in the FA Cup fifth round clash.

It was his 12th of the season, adding to his six assists, but he admits the left-foot stunner in February seems like a long time ago.

He added: “Manchester United was my last goal. I played a couple of games after that and then got injured, so it feels as though I haven’t scored for ages.

“But Saturday is the one and if I’m selected I will be doing my utmost to try to help us win the game.”

Rovers have rarely been out of the bottom three this season and Graham admits that with the squad he’s part of, the current plight is unacceptable.

“It’s been a disappointing season,” he said. “We look around the changing room and feel we shouldn’t be where we are, but as players we’ve probably underperformed and we need to make sure we do the job in the next two games.

“There’s a always belief. There’s no point going into games thinking we’re going to get beaten or not pick up points.

“It’s a massive game on Saturday and hopefully the fans come out and get behind us in numbers.

“We gave Villa a good game at their place and it’s a strange league, so anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“We’re not daft – we know what’s at stake.

“We’ve got ourselves into this position and it’s up to us to get ourselves out of it,

“With the quality we’ve got in the dressing room, we should be able to do that.”

Mowbray’s men are two points behind Birmingham City, three behind Nottingham Forest and five in QPR’s wake going into the final two games.

The latter two meet each other this weekend, while Blues host play-off certs Huddersfield Town.

But Graham says his focus will be firmly on the Villa clash.

He added: “I think Saturday is a must-win, but certainly a not-lose the game.

“Birmingham are at home to Huddersfield, so that is a tough game.

“But we’re going to worry about ourselves, train right all week, work on the shape that the gaffer wants and make sure we give a good account of ourselves.”
