LUCAS SHOWS JOAO IT’S DONE

ROVERS were short of a spark, and hadn’t looked like threatening the Fulham goal prior to Lucas Joao’s arrival just before the hour.

The Portuguese forward was used in a more central role than at Norwich, where he scored twice, but caused problems for the Fulham back four with his pace, power, and his added threat in behind.

He would likely have been disappointed with his two headed efforts, failing to really test David Button as he met deliveries from Connor Mahoney inside the penalty area.

Lancashire Telegraph:

But he showed great tenacity to win the ball back inside the Rovers half before playing in Marvin Emnes for the penalty that Rovers did win.

His effort on turn, saved by saved down low by David Button, looked to be the final chance, but he wasn’t to be denied as he turned in Derrick Williams’ cross from close range.

NEVER SAY DIE ATTITUDE

FOR a second consecutive Tuesday night, Rovers left it late to secure what was a crucial, but deserved, point.

Derrick Williams was the hero against Cardiff City at Ewood Park, while at Fulham it was Lucas Joao as he turned in Williams’ cross in injury time.

There were worries this may be a game too far for Rovers in their unbeaten, but hectic, schedule of games under their new head coach.

Those fears were allied in a second half in which they bossed for the most part, and levelled twice, first with 11 minutes to go and then in the dying seconds.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The players have certainly shown the necessary spirit for the fight under Mowbray, and even though tough tests lie ahead, on this form, Rovers won’t be intimidated by them.

MAKE IT PAY WITH EWOOD PARK

PLENTY of hard graft and effort has gone in to the two draws on the road for Rovers at Norwich and Fulham.

In isolation, for a team struggling at the wrong end of the table, they looked to be very good points. But Rovers need to make sure they make the most of them by backing them up in Saturday’s home game with Preston.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Rovers return to Ewood Park, where have picked up 27 of their 39 points this season, after the two long away trips still with their unbeaten start to life under Tony Mowbray intact.

If they can continue that, and chalk up a third win under their head coach on Saturday, then they will be well placed to beat the drop going in to the international break.
