DESPITE dropping back in to the relegation zone I am still confident that Blackburn Rovers can avoid the drop under Tony Mowbray.

Under their new head coach, I think they’re heading in the right direction. There are 10 games, and 30 points, left to play for and they still have this game in hand.

I thought it was a good result at the weekend. You would not expect that at the start of the season and I thought Norwich would be one of the sides up there challenging the top two.

It is hard to play against 10 men. Everyone assumes that when that happens it will be easier. but the opposition players will always try that bit harder and quite often change their formation, put men behind the ball, and be harder to break down.

The sickener for the manager will have been having taken the lead, with not long left, to concede an equaliser.

Three points would have been a great result, but I still think it was a good point and one that the players will be able to take confidence from.

It doesn’t get any easier, Fulham is a tough place to go and they are on a really good run and had a great result at Newcastle at the weekend.

The Cottagers will come out with a lot of confidence, but if Rovers can keep it tight for the opening 20 minutes and frustrate the team, and crowd, then they have a chance.

In Alex Neil at Norwich, Steve McClaren at Derby and Warren Joyce at Wigan, three Championship managers have lost their jobs since Friday.

It’s awful – but I can understand why chairman and owners do it. The owners want their teams to be in the Premier League, but there are only three teams that can go up each year.

It is a tough one, owners want success and they want it instantly.
The Championship is the toughest and most competitive league there is.

Teams at the bottom can beat teams at the top, as we’ve seen with Rovers doing the double over Newcastle.
