BURTON Albion manager Nigel Clough will have a threadbare squad for tonight’s relegation six-pointer with Blackburn Rovers, writes TOBY WILDING.

The Brewers boss is without a host of first team regulars for the Championship clash.

Midfielder Jackson Irvine limped out of Tuesday’s stalemate at Derby and joins defenders Kyle McFadzean, John Brayford and Burnley loanee winger Michael Kightly on the injury list.

“There are a couple who are touch and go,” said Clough.

“If we put them out there they might make it worse and be out for a few weeks.

“Tight hamstrings worry us and that’s Michael (Kightly) and Jackson (Irvine) – if they go we know it will be four to six weeks.”

Burton could include former Rovers pair Lee Williamson and Luke Varney.

Midfielder Williamson joined the Midlanders at the start of the season after three years and 86 appearances at Rovers, while Varney made 26 appearances at Ewood Park between January 2014 and February 2015.

With Burton short on numbers, both could be in line to start against their former club.
