OWEN Coyle says Blackburn Rovers are working towards a resolution that will see Marvin Emnes stay at the club until at least the end of the season.

Emnes sees his initial six-month deal at Rovers end on Sunday, but Coyle wants the Dutchman remain at Ewood Park as either a loan player, or permanent signing, for the foreseeable future.

The 28-year-old’s deal at the Liberty Stadium expires in the summer, with Coyle leaving negotiations over Emnes’ future to newly-appointed Football Director Paul Senior.

Although Swansea and Emnes will have the final say over his future, Coyle hopes that this afternoon’s game at Ipswich Town won’t be the final time he’s seen in a Rovers shirt.

“I have had a really good meeting with Paul Senior who has come in and he’s taken that on to chat with Swansea to see if we can come to a resolution on Marvin," Coyle said.

“He enjoys it here, we want him here and there are two scenarios.

“One would be to secure him here permanently, and obviously we have had him on a fantastic deal when we signed him on loan, or are we able to sign him on loan until the end of the season and then look to do something permanently in the summer?”

Rovers currently pay just a fraction of Emnes’ wages and a compromise over his salary would likely be needed to secure an extended stay in East Lancashire.

Conversations over the forward’s future have been more difficult given Paul Clement has just taken over as Swansea boss, the South Wales club's third manager of the season.

His views on Emnes could well dictate where the Dutchman plies his trade for the remainder of the season, though he hasn’t featured for the Premier League side since March.

Coyle added: “We need to have that clear and definitive conversation, because there have been some moving parts within that, obviously Swansea changing manager.

“We have had to give Swansea some space as to what their final answer may be, and that’s why it’s been left as late as it has, because of circumstance rather than anything else.

“It may be that Paul Clement wants Marvin back and that’s what we’re waiting on.

“Once we know that, because that dictates a lot of things, then we would be in a position to try and take it from there.

“I do have sympathy for players when they have deals that stop in the middle of the season, but Marvin really enjoys being at Blackburn Rovers, and is enjoying his football.”

Coyle is looking to add to his squad this month, with three potential signings already identified.

But the Rovers boss says any planned incomings would be as an addition to, rather than replacement for, Emnes.

“I have three targets in mind and Marvin isn’t one of those as he’s already here.

“He is one I would like to secure and then look to add with two or three that I think could help us.”
