LIAM Feeney says his Blackburn Rovers teammates won’t need any warning from him about how tough a nut Ipswich Town are to crack.

Feeney spent the final months of last season on loan at Portman Road as the Tractor Boys fell just short in their pursuit of the Championship play-offs.

Mick McCarthy’s men have lost just nine of their last 59 home league games since the start of the 2014/15 season and despite struggling of late, sitting 15th in the table, Feeney isn’t underestimating the task ahead.

But the 30-year-old believes that Rovers’ three-game unbeaten run, and winning start to 2017, will see them travel to Suffolk with confidence on Saturday.

“Everyone knows, it’s well documented, how solid and well drilled Ipswich are,” said Feeney, who played nine times for Town last season.

“I’m not sure they will need much information from me.

“They have got some good players going forward as well so it’s going to be a really tough game but we’re in good form and we’re looking forward to it.

“We know that we can hurt them and cause them problems and we feel we can score against anyone, so it’s just about keeping it tight.

“We’re looking to build on our momentum and you have to take it as and when you can in this league.

“It’s such a tough division, but we’re on good form, and we’re not fearing anyone.”

The winger will be confident about keeping his place ahead of the game having scored in the FA Cup win at QPR last weekend, and chalking up an assist for Danny Graham in the draw at Huddersfield on New Year’s Eve.

A fourth consecutive start would equal his longest run in the team since joining permanently in the summer, with 10 of his 21 appearances so far this season coming as a substitute.

Feeney’s pace has been a weapon used by Rovers on the counter-attack, particularly in the last three games, and he added: “We’ve been working a lot on our defensive shape and then breaking quickly when we win the ball back in the right areas and it paid dividends at the weekend.

“It’s taken a while to get that run of games and confidence and feel comfortable out there.

“Competition has always been fierce here, I’ve had to bide my time but hopefully people are starting to see the best of me.

“It’s tough to be out for the team for a while and then come in to the team and produce straight away.

“I’ve been pleased recently and hopefully I can keep improving and we can keep winning games.

“I’m always confident that when I do get a run of games I will chip in with the odd goal and assists.

“Goals and assists are what I’m out there for, thankfully I’ve been able to get a few assists, and now a goal, so hopefully it’s the start of some more goals for me.”

Feeney scored his first goal in Rovers colours in the cup win at QPR which made it back-to-back wins to start the calendar year.

They return to league action at Ipswich knowing a third successive win could move them out of the relegation places.

And Feeney said: “We’ve had a couple of good results in the league and we want to keep it going.

“Winning is a great habit and we want to keep that going when we go to Ipswich.

“It’s something we’re looking to build on and try and make this run go on that bit longer.”
