BLACKBURN Rovers winger Elliott Bennett says he didn’t feel under any extra pressure to perform despite making his first start since September in the FA Cup win at QPR.

And he hopes he’s done enough to make it back-to-back starts when Rovers head to Ipswich this weekend after an impressive display at Loftus Road.

The 28-year-old hadn’t started for Rovers since the EFL Cup defeat to Leeds on September 20 But he played a big part in Rovers’ third round win as they made in to the hat for tonight’s fourth round draw.

“You can’t be nervous playing football,” he said.

“We work hard in the week and train together and what you want to do on Saturday is play the games and it was enjoyable.

“You always want to make a good impression whether it be in training or in games, ultimately you get judged on what you do on the pitch.

“All I was focussed on was helping the team rather than my own situation and whether I’m in the team or not.

“If the team is winning then everyone is winning.”

Bennett was making just his 10th appearance of the season, though just six of those have come in the league.

His only league start of the campaign came on the opening day against former side Norwich City in which he was brought off at half-time.

And he added: “It is always nice to play games.

“I’d not played for a while which has been frustrating at times, but this is team game, we have a good squad and everyone will be called upon at some stage of the season.

“It was great to play and obviously more importantly get the win.”

Bennett was handed his chance on the Rovers left with Craig Conway sidelined by a hamstring injury.

The Scot is touch and go to make the weekend’s game at Ipswich, which could present Bennett the chance to end his wait for his second league start of the season.

And when asked if he felt he had done enough to force his way in, Bennett added: “You’ll have to ask the gaffer, all I can do is work as hard as I can for the team and try and create some chances.

“I thought I worked hard and whether the manager thinks I’ve done enough, that’s his call.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was nice to get the win.”

He had a hand in the first goal as it was his cross, after a surging 50 yard run, that Sam Gallagher headed goalwards before Joel Lynch turned in to his own net.

It was one of a number of strong breaks down the left for Bennett whose showed great fitness on his return to the side to last the full 90 minutes.

“It would have been nice for Sam to get another goal but it doesn’t matter how it goes in,” Bennett said of the opener.

“It got us off to a good start and we were in control of the game from then.

“It was a fantastic team performance, and might not have been a classic, but we’re in to the next round which is all the matters.”

And on who he would like in the fourth round, he added: “Manchester United away and going to Old Trafford is always nice.

“But it’s a magical cup and whoever we get we’ll be giving everything to win.”
