OWEN Coyle felt it was job done for his side as they made it in to round four with a 2-1 win at Queens Park Rangers.

They took the lead in the eighth minute through a Joel Lynch own goal, before doubling it just before the hour with Liam Feeney’s close-range finish.

Jake Bidwell brought the hosts back in to it with a penalty a minute later, but Rovers saw the game through to be in the hat for Monday’s draw.

And the Rovers boss said: “At the outset of the game the aim was to be in the hat for the next round and win the game at what is a tough venue.

“There’s no doubt from start to finish that we were the better side and deserved the victory.

“I don’t think even the most die-hard QPR fan could argue against that, they had a bit of the ball, but we had a good defensive shape and I don’t think they created too many chances.

“I thought we looked a real threat all day.

“What we have done is give a bit of our attacking threat up, as although we were free-flowing in our attacking play, we were conceding too many goals.

“We now have a very shape without the ball but are still able to carry a threat.”

The one disappointment for Coyle however, was the penalty that was awarded against his side just a minute after Feeney had doubled Rovers’ lead.

He added: “I never thought for one minute that it was a penalty.

“I was 15 yards away and I could tell that the lad was going to throw himself to the floor and for me I thought it was a soft award.

“That gave them a way back in to the game at a time when I thought it was going to be us who were adding to our tally with our pace and movement on the counter-attack.

“We stood up to everything they threw at us and I thought it was a valuable win for us.

“Hopefully we can keep building this momentum and kick on from here.”
