HUDDERSFIELD Town boss David Wagner hailed his side's performance at Ewood Park as one of their best this season, despite only coming away with a point.

Wagner saw his side rattle off 29 shots and dominate for much of the opening 45 minutes, only for Danny Graham’s penalty 11 minutes before the break seeing the game end level.

Kasey Palmer put the visitors in front with a fifth minute header from a left-wing corner, but they could have led by more as they wasted a number of good opportunities in front of goal.

And despite seeing his side held to a draw, which also saw them drop out of the play-off spots for the first time this season, the German boss was full of praise for his side.

He said: “In my opinion we looked fantastic over the whole 90 minutes.

“If we win this game, I think we will speak about one of our best performances ever this season, but this was still one of our best performances this season.

“In football, sometimes you don't get what you deserve, but we have no complaints about our performance.

“If there was anyone out there who wrote us off, I think everybody has seen we are still confident and still trust ourselves to win football matches.

“If someone had lost trust, belief or confidence in us after recent results, this performance shows it makes no sense. It also shows we shouldn’t be written off.

“It was a very good performance, and we didn’t get the result we deserved but if we keep playing this way, the wins will come.

“How we like to work together, fight and win ball back, we saw it here. We were strong all over the pitch and we defended well.

“We must make sure we focus on the very positive things we have seen and go forward.”

Despite firing in 29 efforts on goal, only eight were on target, and when they were, Jason Steele was there to deny them.

But Wagner – whose side have now picked up just five points from their last eight games – said his side do have goalscorers in their team despite their inability to take their chances at Ewood Park.

“I would disagree with anyone who said we need more goalscorers in the squad,” Wagner told the Huddersfield Examiner.

“I don’t think we lack scorers. We had many players who might have got a goal in this game.

“Yes, too many times, we didn’t make the right decision or hit the target.

“But it’s more difficult to name a player who didn’t have a chance than to pick anyone out for criticism.

“Of course I am not happy with how we used some of our opportunities.

“But we also have to remember their keeper (Jason Steele) had possibly one of his best games.”
