DANNY Graham says Blackburn Rovers’ win at Newcastle United is the standard they must strive to achieve on a consistent basis.

Rovers stunned the league leaders at St James’ Park with a 1-0 win that ended the Magpies’ run of nine consecutive victories.

Next up is a home game with Huddersfield Town as Rovers go in search of a third consecutive Championship win for the first time since March 2015.

“We have set the benchmark now,” four goal Graham said. “We can’t let our performances drop any lower than Saturday.

“We’ve got to keep those standards, we’ve been looking for them for the opening 15 or 16 games.

“To put the performance in we did on the back of Brentford was pleasing.

“Everyone had written us off before we had even kicked a ball so we need to build on that and try and get another three points on Saturday.”

Rovers go in to the game with the Terriers in 20th position, one point above the relegation zone after last weekend’s win moved them out of the bottom three.

Graham pulled no punches on his side’s start to the season, but says now is a time to look forward, not back.

He added: “I would say that 90 per cent of footballers look at league tables or at least know where they are.

“It was nice to get out of the bottom three, we were three because we deserved to be there, there’s no hiding behind that, and we hadn’t got the results we should have with the squad we’ve got.

“We need to look forward now and not back at the previous games.

“We owe it ourselves and more so to the fans who pay their money to come and watch us.

“It would be nice to get a run of form going at home and put smiles back on the punters’ faces.”

Rovers will be aiming to extend the gap to the bottom three against Huddersfield, armed with the belief from the win over the Magpies.

“If we can’t get confidence from going up to Newcastle and winning then we won’t get it from any game,” Graham said. “We need to build on it.

“We know that Huddersfield will be tough. We will need to impose ourselves on the game and try and pick up three more valuable points.”

Marvin Emnes returned from injury for the win in the north east, while Rovers boss Owen Coyle is hopeful that both Gordon Greer and Danny Guthrie will be fit for the weekend.

Of Emnes’ impact, Graham said: “He wasn’t a bad substitute to have.

“He came on and was brilliant.

“He’s not been mentioned a lot but we’ve got Anthony Stokes too who has not had a lot of games lately.

“Gordon Greer is back training now, Wes Brown is getting more minutes under his belt so we’re starting to get more competition for places and I think that has shown over the last few games.”

Emnes partnered Graham in the final half an hour at Newcastle as Rovers took the game to the hosts and got their rewards with Charlie Mulgrew’s 75th minute winner.

Bodies are starting to return for Rovers as they enter what could be a pivotal Christmas period, with the Huddersfield the first of six games in a busy December.

Graham, a boyhood Newcastle fan, also made it five consecutive wins at St James’ Park, and said: “It was a great feeling for everyone.

“Obviously I’ve been up there a few times and won, but with the circumstances at the minute, everyone had written us off and we went up there and showed everyone what we’re about.”
