I’M not one for body-shaming so I will leave any personal comments about ex-England enigma Jonjo Shelvey to one side, save for a warning he might fall over his sulky pet-lip if he’s not careful, writes Simon Smith.

To be frank, if I was a £12m player who had been comprehensively outfought, out-thought and outplayed then I’d keep my mouth shut and hope nobody remembered. Perhaps that £65,000 chef he hired should bake him some humble pie.

I mean how DARE Rovers pass the ball up to their front men at the Theatre of Cheapo Trainers and Jockstraps instead of lying down to lose 0-6 like Preston or QPR?

My comment last week that we could not possibly keep a clean sheet was held up for what it was; a sorry lack of faith in a back-four who were dogged (the full-backs) and magnificent (the centre-halves.)

But besides my own gaffe a lot more guff was talked by others, even by some inflexible Rovers fans, about how Dwight Gayle was absent (despite a £15m striker in the side) and that it was a one-off and it’ll be back to mediocrity next week.

We have to give credit where it is due and Owen Coyle has made the right decisions in the last two games and so we must give his team the support they deserve.

It will perhaps take more than two wins on the trot for him to win over the fans but those up in Newcastle on Saturday put aside all naysaying to get behind the team.

All of the Rovers following, the ones I spoke with at least, were optimistic and ready to play their part in the game.

If more can get on board for Saturday’s home game and especially for the short trip to Deepdale next week then this Rovers’ resurgence may just prove to be a slow burn to safety rather than a flash in the pan.
