OWEN Coyle has told his Rovers squad that the onus is on them to entertain the Ewood Park faithful and get their home ground rocking once again.

Another crowd of less than 11,000 watched the drab goalless draw with Ipswich on Saturday and with little in the way of opportunities for the home side the game was played out in front of mostly silent stadium.

It was the third game in a row where Rovers have failed to find the back of the net, although they had a goal wrongly disallowed against Sheffield Wednesday at the start of that run, and Coyle is keen to see his side give the fans something to cheer when Nottingham Forest visit Ewood tonight (7.45pm).

"There is an onus on the players to go and entertain, I’ve said that to the players," said the Rovers boss. "I think the fans can see they’ve been giving everything they’ve got but equally bring your quality. What we didn’t do well enough on Saturday was be as incisive and penetrating in the final third as we have before.

"They showed a lot of endeavour and a lot of heart and courage, we got our first clean sheet of the season, but it's fair to say in the final third we went as free flowing as we normally are.

"The supporters are coming along to support their team and get behind their club, so our part is to make sure we’re doing our bit to get the fans on side.

"Equally when you do have difficult moments you want the fans to give you that backing and help you through and they can.

"Historically Blackburn Rovers have shown they’re an outstanding club with a great set of supporters. It’s two fold, we need to help the fans and there’s times the fans can help the players."

Rovers have won just one of six Championship fixtures in front of their own fans this season, a pulsating 4-2 success over Rotherham.

Coyle was full of praise for the way the Ewood faithful roared their side over the line in that crucial fixture, and he knows producing more performances on that level, especially going forward, is key.

"The simplistic and easy answer is for the players to play well because then those fans will get behind them," he said.

"The best example is the Rotherham game, a game we must win, when we got to 3-2 it was easy then for everyone to be nervous and anxious but nothing could be further from the truth, the fans, to their credit, got right behind the team and the fans pushed the team on to get that fourth goal.

"For me it was defining because it showed when the fans are like that how the players can respond, but we can’t just expect to roll in and expect the fans to get behind us, we’ve got to give them something to shout about, you’ve got to entertain them and show them you’re here to do your best for Blackburn Rovers."

Despite going a third game without a goal Coyle isn't too worried about the blanks, although he admitting his side didn't create enough on Saturday.

"It was a concern on Saturday, not the previous two, we scored a very good goal against Sheffield Wednesday (which was disallowed) and against Birmingham we created good chances to score goals.

"I didn’t think we created enough on Saturday so what we have to do is get Gallagher and Emnes furnished with the ball in the right place and get the wide players going at it and showing quality, we have shown we are a creative team and we can score goals."
