NEIL Warnock spoke to Blackburn Rovers in the summer over their vacant manager’s job.

Rovers interviewed Warren Joyce, Russell Slade and Nigel Adkins before appointing Owen Coyle as Paul Lambert’s replacement.

But Warnock has now confirmed he was also approached by the Ewood Park outfit as well as Nottingham Forest.

The 67-year-old has since taken over Championship rivals Cardiff City.

And Warnock admits the decision to return to football with the Bluebirds came on the advice of his wife, Sharon, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

“She’s had her chemotherapy and her hair’s growing back, and she said, ‘look, another club will do me – you can have one more’,” said Warnock, who this week signed former Rovers winger Junior Hoilett.

“I did talk to Forest and Blackburn and one or two others and for whatever reason they never came to fruition.

“Cardiff has always been my kind of club. It just seemed right.

“I just thought it’s my cup of tea. The fans like blood and thunder and I thought what another great opportunity for me.”
