ROVERS have been blessed with top wingers over the years and Craig Conway is no exception. Rarely for a winger he is consistent and never goes missing in games.

It was a travesty that he hardly featured last year under Paul Lambert and we are fortunate not to have lost him in what must have been a difficult year for him.

He is an honest player, delivers pinpoint crosses and is always looking for possession and is vastly underrated in the football world.

As much as I rate him, it would take a lot to reach the standards of Damien Duff and David Bentley who are my stand-out Rovers wingers.

PAUL YATES

WELL does he compare with the likes of Douglas, Wagstaffe, Wilcox, Ripley and Brotherston?

At times when I have seen him he has impressed me immensely. He has all the qualities you would wish for in a winger and with an eye for goal he’s a real asset to the team.

However, when he loses form he looks a lost soul as he often did last season. I suspect he needs backing and encouragement to bring out his best.

Yes he stands comparison and if Rovers escape relegation it will be down to players like Craig.

SAM JONES

WE have been blessed with some truly fantastic wingers over the years. Before my time watching Rovers there was Jason Wilcox and Stuart Ripley in the title-winning squad and going further back, the greatest of them all, Bryan Douglas.

Craig Conway has to be outside of my top three with Damien Duff, Morten Gamst Pedersen and David Bentley ahead of him. They all played in the Premier League, of course, possessing the skill and talent to win a match single-handedly.

However, in terms of a work rate to match that natural ability, Conway is right up there with Brett Emerton. Someone who gives his all week in, week out and also has the quality to make a difference in games.

The Scotsman has consistently given at least a 7/10 during almost three years at the club. It was a mystery to me why he was not a regular starter under Paul Lambert.

Now one of the first names on the team-sheet, Conway is recapturing the form that we saw at the start of his Rovers career with three goals and five assists.

He is very likely to be in contention for the player-of-the-season award at the end of this campaign. Such recognition has not bestowed him so far in his Rovers career due to the quality of his former team-mates. I just hope he does not follow in the footsteps of the most recent winners and leave the club.

CAMERON DEACON

THIS answer is really going to vary depending on your age and what you want from a winger. But for me being in the younger generation Conway definitelyis in the top three.

Craig Bellamy was an exceptional player; pace, power, an awesome finish and would almost always create a chance.

Morten Gamst Pedersen comes a close second; a player who could put a ball on a pinpoint from 30 yards. Pedersen gave me some of my favourite memories at Blackburn and is always a player I liked for his attitude toward the game and skill on a set-piece. The year we got relegated from the Premier League we finished first in most goals from set-pieces and in almost every occasion it was a Pedersen corner, free kick or throw-in that got us that goal. A true set-piece master.

But when it comes to Conway I don’t think there has been a better player at Blackburn since we got relegated.

Whenever he plays he is the player who has always fought the hardest and been Blackburn’s brightest light in there darkest times.

He may not always deliver the best ball but he never stops trying to get it.  When he was paired with Rudy Gestede they were a combination to be feared.

And now with Sam Gallagher I can see him regaining that form and getting bags and bags of assists. He’s had a great start and hopefully his form can continue through the rest of the season.
