WE deliver our player ratings from Rovers’ rousing first win of the Championship season.
Jason Steele 6
Caught in no-man’s land for Danny Ward’s opener but then saved twice from the Millers man as well averting a certain own goal.
Jason Lowe 7
Scott Allan had little change out of the Rovers right-back and captain and it was no surprise when the Rotherham winger was substituted.
Tommie Hoban 6
Needed an injection to play after coming off with a hip injury in the midweek defeat at Leeds United. Made Rovers’ most clearances.
Gordon Greer 6
Let Ward get in behind to score his first goal. Picked up a knock and was replaced by Scott Wharton who was beaten by the Rotherham striker for his second.
Derrick Williams 6
Was unable to prevent Stephen Kelly from crossing for Ward to double his tally but otherwise defended soundly and always got forward.
Danny Guthrie 7
Diligent display on his recall to the side, keeping the ball well and winning it back more than any other Rovers player.
Corry Evans 7
Lost possession in the build-up to the game’s opening goal but made amends by teeing up Craig Conway’s equaliser. Good performance.
Ben Marshall 8
Quiet first half, other than heading a Greg Halford effort off the line, but burst into life after scoring his first goal of the season. Played his part in the killer fourth.
Marvin Emnes 9
The full and home debutant was magnificent. Created two goals, scored one himself, and led the Millers a merry dance throughout.
Craig Conway 9
Added another contender to his personal goal-of-the-season competition before setting up Emnes for his second in as many matches. Could have had more assists. Superb.
Sam Gallagher 9*
Sealed the success with the goal he had been threatening all afternoon. It shows how well he played that he beat Conway and Emnes to the man-of-the-match award.
SUBS
Scott Wharton for Greer (82), Darragh Lenihan for Evans (82), Martin Samuelsen for Conway (90). Not used: David Raya, Liam Feeney, Jack Byrne, Hope Akpan.
