OUT of a bad situation comes good.

A month ago a group of Blackburn Rovers fans set about raising awareness of their unhappiness about how the club is being run by its owners Venky’s.

But alongside that they wanted to raise money for a charity which cares for people across East Lancashire.

Fast forward four weeks and a cheque worth £2,604.06 has been handed over to East Lancashire Hospice.

Rovers fans who want Venky’s to leave Ewood Park donated £2 – and in many cases more – to the ‘Two Quid to Get Rid’ JustGiving page which was set up by supporter Matthew McDonough.

Kim Greaves, a fundraiser for East Lancashire Hospice, said: “We are grateful for all the donations we receive and would like to thank all those who have contributed to this total.

“This fantastic figure will make a difference to patients and their families.”

McDonough added: “I am humbled that so many loyal Blackburn Rovers supporters can unite together to show unity in their beliefs that a change of ownership at our club is needed, and that energy and passion can be channelled to raise funds for such a worthy charity which is a pillar of our community, which in turn puts football into perspective.”

East Lancashire Hospice provides specialist, supportive and end-of-life care for patients and their families from Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.
