PUTTING recent issues aside, Shane Duffy is not a good defender and I would snap the hand off any club that will give us money for him, especially substantial money. He was carried by an excellent Grant Hanley last year and appears strong with his aerial dominance in both boxes, however, he is poor positionally and is prone to errors. Add to that his recent attitude and he has to go.

Ben Marshall, however, is a talent, one of few players in the game who is comfortable running with the ball. However, a dejected player is worthless and that’s what Marshall has become.

Players have the power, regardless of contracts, as we cannot carry players that don’t perform or lose money by freezing them out.

Marshall is better than the predicament we find ourselves in so I don’t blame him for wanting out, Duffy however has ideas well above his station.

IT all depends on any new additions to the squad before the window closes.

I suspect feelers have been put out to see who is interested in taking them and no reasonable offer will be refused.

However, we can ill-afford to lose any more talented players unless we are resigned to life in League One next season. If they remain then we must hope they give of their best in order to attract offers.

You can’t blame them for wanting away. Why would you want to stay at a club with no direction or apparent future?

IT appears that Ben Marshall does not want to be at the club and usually such a player should be sold. However, with only a year left on his current contract, his price in the market will be significantly reduced. Interested clubs may even decide to wait until next summer and take him on a free transfer.

His body language and effort on the pitch has made it clear that he wants out, yet he should be giving it his all in order to prove his talent and engineer a transfer. But even if there was a way to sell him for a significant fee in this transfer window, the money is unlikely to be reinvested in new players. This is despite the fact that the squad desperately needs improving, whether the likes of Marshall leave the club or not.

Shane Duffy had a nightmare week, but he came out against Crewe with the right attitude, determined to atone for his errors. He ended up getting the winner and whether he is playing for a move away from Ewood Park or not, at least he was giving it his all whilst in a Blackburn Rovers shirt. That is all we ask for, Ben.

Everything should be done to keep both players at the club. They may have made mistakes and endured poor starts to the season, but when on form, Marshall and Duffy could be crucial to keeping the team in this division.
