BLACKBURN Rovers Owen Coyle has confirmed that Newcastle United are not the only club interested in signing his captain Grant Hanley.

Newcastle United have had a series for bids for the Scotland international centre-back turned down by Rovers.

It has been reported that Norwich City, who came down with Newcastle from the Premier League last season, are also prepared to table an offer for Hanley.

The 24-year-old has also been linked with Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham after being named Rovers’ player of the year in May.

Coyle has made it clear that he does want to lose Hanley – and certainly not for the fees offered so far by Newcastle.

But he admits the final decision will rest with Rovers owners Venky’s.

Coyle, speaking after the three-team tournament at Morecambe on Saturday, said: “I don’t think Newcastle are the only club who are admirers of Grant.

“I can’t do anything about that. All I can do is pass my football opinion on to the owners. I’ve said that I don’t want to lose Grant Hanley.

“Club keep knocking at our door and making offers. Newcastle have made the offers but a couple of other clubs have intimated they are very interested.

“If those offers come in, we’ll have a look at them as a club, and it will be up to the owners to decide if they’re going to take them.

“I’ll just control what I control and take it from there.”

Hanley sat out the 1-0 win over Bury and 0-0 draw with Morecambe on Saturday with the knee injury which had also ruled him out of the 1-0 victory over SV Ried in Austria one week earlier.

Coyle, who is attempting to sign a left-back and a striker, said: “The speculation was nothing to do with Grant missing the games.

“He’s tweaked his knee. He worked really hard on Thursday and we thought if he came through training (on Friday) then great.

“He did that but he felt a little reaction and because of that we thought it would be folly to take any chances today.

“Hopefully he can come in on Monday, get up and running, and we’ll take it from there.”
