WITH it looking like seven first-team players are going to leave Blackburn Rovers at the end of the month, it leaves Owen Coyle with a lot of places to fill.

But I think he’s going about it the right way.

MORE TOP STORIES:

It’s clear he’s started by going after players who could go straight into the first team and make an impact.

And he’s right to do that because the likes of Danny Graham and Anthony Stokes are not going to stick around on the market for too long. They will have a lot of offers.

So if he can get the first signings he wants tied up before the start of pre-season then that will represent really good business.

With the club having taken a long time to appoint a manager Owen is and will have to move quickly.

But if he can have three, four or five players who can make a difference in for the start of pre-season on a week on Monday then he’ll be happy.

Then he can have a couple of full weeks working with the players before the first friendly to show them how he wants them to play.

That time will also give him the chance to see what else he needs and whether he fancies this player or that player.

And there’s no doubt he will need more after the first batch of signings given the amount of players leaving the club.

It’s a ruthless game football, you never like seeing players let go on free transfers, but if they’ve not been playing too much, you’ve got to turn around and say, ‘thanks for your service, it’s time to move on’.

The wages of Simon Eastwood, Matt Kilgallon, Chris Taylor, Lee Williamson, Chris Brown, Simeon Jackson and Nathan Delfouneso will save the club money and hopefully allow Owen to bring in better players.

And it’s clear he’s doing everything he can to do that. It looks like he’s throwing himself into the job but I’m not surprised because he was like that as a player. He gave it his all.
