TOMMY Spurr is no clearer to knowing whether he has a future at Blackburn Rovers.

But the defender has expressed his desire to remain at the club for a fourth season.

Spurr is one of eight senior Rovers players who will be out of contract in the summer.

Simon Eastwood, Matt Kilgallon, Chris Taylor, Lee Williamson, Simeon Jackson, Chris Brown and Nathan Delfouneso could also become free agents come July 1.

But Spurr is the only one who was a regular for Rovers in 2015-16 after regaining his place from Markus Olsson in January.

However the 28-year-old, who missed the final seven games of the campaign with an Achilles injury, has no idea whether he will be handed fresh terms.

Spurr has been told that the final decision will be made by the club’s yet to be appointed new manager.

He admits the situation, which has left him with no idea whether he will add to his 84 appearances for Rovers, is ‘frustrating’.

But he is willing to play the waiting game given his determination to kick-off the 2016-17 campaign with the club.

“It’s frustrating, and a weird sort of feeling, not knowing what’s happening, or what’s going to go on,” said Spurr, the only recognised left-back in Rovers’ squad.

“But I’m sure it will come to light in the next couple of weeks and then we’ll all know what’s happening.

“I’m just waiting to see what’s been decided. I want to stay and I want to be part of something here – and be part of something good.

“Rather than looking down, I want to help the club start pushing up again. Hopefully I get the opportunity to do that.

“How long do I give it? I don’t know. I’m just going to sort my Achilles out, go away, sort my wedding out, and see what happens. It’s just a waiting game at the moment.

“Yes it’s frustrating but the club has got more important things to sort out, in terms of a new manager, and once that is sorted we’ll just have to see what happens with the lads who are out of contract.

“I want to stay here and if you ask any of the other lads who are out of contract I’m sure they’d say the same.

“It’s a great club, it’s a great place to play your football, and it’s a really good set of lads. I definitely want to stay.”

One of the leading contenders to become the new Rovers boss is Hibs manager Alan Stubbs.

His Hibs side’s hopes of winning promotion to the Scottish Premiership were dashed on Friday when they lost their play-off semi-final second leg 3-2 late on at Falkirk to go out 5-4 on aggregate.

Afterwards Stubbs, who will lead the Edinburgh club out at Hampden Park this weekend in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers, remained tight-lipped on his future.

The 44-year-old, who has one year remaining on his Hibs contract, said: “It’s not the time to speak about that.

“It’s not about me really. Right now it’s about the players and the club.”
