BLACKBURN Rovers boss Paul Lambert insists his players will do everything they can to end the season on a high despite his decision to leave the club.

And Lambert has paid tribute to the Rovers supporters who will roar their side on in today’s trip to resurgent Rotherham United.

The clash with the in-form Millers will be Lambert’s first since announcing he will walk away from the club following next Saturday’s home clash with Reading.

But he is adamant the announcement will have no bearing on how they perform in the final two games of the campaign.

Lambert said: “Will the lads have any problem trying to win these two games? No, because they’re good guys.

“I know for a fact their professionalism will see them through the games and they will go and try and win them.

“The only problem we’ve got is the lads we’ve got out of contract and the three lads we’ve got on loan. That’s the problem the football club has in general.

“We will do what we can to try to win. We’ll prepare them the right way and I’ll do what I’ve done throughout my whole football career and be professional.”

Rovers will be backed by more than 1,200 supporters at the New York Stadium this afternoon after the club sold out its initial allocation for what is the final away match of the season.

And Lambert said: “The fans have been brilliant, excellent. They’ve been through the wringer for a number of years and it’s important they know what’s happening with their club because it’s been going since 1875 and you want it to be here for the next 100 years.

“The fans have been fantastic. Hopefully they’ll come out in force on Saturday and get behind us, which I’m pretty sure they will be because it’s the last away game, and then hopefully at home next week it will be pretty busy.

“It’s a big thanks from me to them because they’ve backed us all the way even when we’ve not picked up results.

“They’ve never criticised because they want the club to do well as well. I wish them all the best for the future and a massive thanks because they’ve treated me really well.”

Rovers will make the trip to south Yorkshire having failed to win any of their last six matches.

In contrast Rotherham are unbeaten in 11 games and Neil Warnock’s side will move above their opponents with victory this afternoon.

Lambert said: “You do get a reaction to new managers coming in. That seems to have happened at Rotherham.

“You can’t fault their effort for moving up a few places and making themselves safe. It’s been a big, big effort for everybody. That’s their club and we’ve got ours.”
