I HALF expected the news that Paul Lambert would not be Blackburn Rovers manager next season as it looks like the things he was promised by the owners have not been delivered.

I don't blame him at all for the decision he's made. Paul is his own man and a very strong character.

But the decision does leave the club in a bit of a pickle, with two games of the season left, and in a right old mess overall.

Blackburn Rovers want to, at the very least, be in the top half of the Championship. They don't want to do what Bolton have done this season and disappear down to League One.

But this news, and what has been happening, is going to put managers off taking the job at Ewood Park.

I've heard a few of the names the bookies fancy, which include Tim Sherwood, David Moyes and Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth.

I can't see Sherwood taking it. I see Tim now and again and I know he wants to get back into managing in the Premier League.

Moyes is another who I don't think has any chance of accepting the role.

He looks like he's waiting for the Celtic job, now Ronny Deila's leaving, although Paul Lambert has strong links to Parkhead so I wouldn't rule out him going back there either.

I watch Wycombe quite a lot and Gareth Ainsworth has done a brilliant job at Adams Park. He's someone who's going to go on a progress in management and I don't think the Rovers job would be right for him at all.

In one way it's possibly too soon to lead a club of that size considering the experience he has, but also a lot of people are looking at it and thinking there won't be any money to spend, so it wouldn't be good for him in that respect either.

It's pretty damning to say the manager of Wycombe Wanderers wouldn't want to take the Blackburn Rovers job, but there you have it!

The news is going to affect the players, make no mistake. Just like the fans, they don't know what's going on.

It's also worrying that Paul Lambert would have had a list of players he wanted to sign in the summer. Now he's going, the club are behind their opponents once again and you already fear they'll be playing catch-up come the start of next season.
