WE asked our fans' jury members whether Rovers need to spend big to get up the Championship? Or can it be done another way? Here's what they had to say...

KELVIN WILKINS

WE do need to spend as the squad needs an overhaul, but we don’t need to spend big, we need to spend wisely. Gary Bowyer did just that with the acquisition of Tom Cairney, Rudy Gestede and Craig Conway to name but a few.

I’d hope that a manager who has been out of the game and travelled the continent should have a repertoire of players lined up just as Mark Hughes did when he brought in Ryan Nelson and Chris Samba.

It concerns me that his transfer policy is restricted to past Norwich City players so far but I hope he has a few gems up his sleeve.

PAUL YATES

YES – but unfortunately it will take more than money, and anyway it simply isn’t going to happen.

The whole club needs restructuring and revitalising from top to bottom. Ewood Park is a tired and demoralised place with fans still shaking their heads in disbelief.

Some feel the owners do not see the club as their priority but simply as an investment that went wrong and they’re now not going to throw good money after bad.

The horse has bolted and League One beckons next season which is an alarming but probable outcome of our plight.

SAM JONES

THOSE at the very top have spent money, but spent it wisely. They also have a stable ownership and a long-term manager in place.

While not all of the above can be fixed in the near future at Rovers, it is clear that our team needs investment to get anywhere near the top six.

Paul Lambert could build his own legacy if he can be convinced there is money available to get this club back on its feet.

Although it appears unlikely to happen, if the owners backed the manager, not only could he attract some good signings and give permanent deals to the likes of Danny Graham, but also persuade players such as Ben Marshall and Shane Duffy to stay at the club.

He has repeatedly publicised his intentions and, knowing the league well, is confident he could do the business – if given the funds to make a difference.

Bringing through a host of hungry young players could be the only other way. But that often requires money in itself and must be done alongside other plans.

A good youth policy is already in place at Rovers and bringing a few more fresh faces into the first team is the next step.
