BLACKBURN Rovers boss Paul Lambert has confirmed he will look to strengthen his squad further now the emergency loan window is open.

Lambert made six signings during the January transfer window and stated after it closed that he believes he now has a stronger squad than the one he inherited.

But he made it clear after his side produced the best performance of his Rovers reign that he still has work to do on the recruitment front before the season is out.

Lambert, speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at second-placed Middlesbrough, said: “We’ll definitely try if we think we can get people in who can enhance it. That’s something we’ll definitely look at.

“We’re getting there but we still need one or two more in to give us a hand. If we get the opportunity to do that, let’s see what happens.

“I’m not 100 per happy. You never will be as a manager.

“If we can keep on trying to get players in, the types of (Jordi) Gomez and (Tony) Watt, that type of quality, to help the lads who are here, we’ll have a right good squad.”

Gomez, who marked his Rovers debut with a superb goal against Middlesbrough, joined on loan from Sunderland until the end of the season on deadline day.

But it is understood Lambert was also attempting to push through a loan move for a wide player with pace in the hours before the January transfer window shut.

Lambert may look to resurrect that deal now the emergency loan window is open.

And, ahead of a taxing run of 11 matches in 36 days, he also needs left-back cover for Tommy Spurr following Markus Olsson’s departure to Derby County.

Rovers will go into that run, which starts with the visit of table-topping Hull City to Ewood Park on Saturday, on the back of an excellent display at Middlesbrough.

Asked whether it was the best they have played under him, Lambert said: “I’ve only been here a short time so you can’t expect miracles but the way we played, that’s the type of performance that you have to turn in week in, week out.

“It showed what we’re capable of. Now it’s about turning it in week in and week out.

“There’s a lot of confidence there and there’s a lot of good footballers but we have to sustain that level and to do that we have to bring in other players to help them.

“We’re unbeaten in four at the minute so we’re doing okay.”

One area of the field Lambert is satisfied with is centre-back.

For the second game running Elliot Ward impressed on Saturday after he kept his place ahead of Shane Duffy.

“It was reward for the way he played against Oxford and I thought he was outstanding again,” said Lambert, who has also been linked with centre-midfielders.

“He’s very composed with the ball and I thought the back four were untroubled.

“I thought he deserved to play again after last week but Shane will definitely come back in at some stage.”
