TOMMY Spurr says the Blackburn Rovers players are right behind boss Gary Bowyer.

And Spurr has insisted that Rovers’ maiden victory will come soon after the international break.

The club moved to deny a report that Bowyer had been sacked in the wake of the 1-0 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion.

But he is still yet to lead Rovers to their first win of the season after they drew 0-0 at home to Bolton Wanderers on Friday night.

For the third match running the Ewood Park outfit were unable to make the most of the chances they created.

And left-back Spurr said: “We’ve had three games like that now – Cardiff, Brighton and this one – and we could have had three wins and all of a sudden we’d have 10 points from our first five games rather than three.

“That’s how fine the margins are but we just have to take the positive that we are creating the chances.

“We’ve got Jordan (Rhodes) back now and sooner or later he’s going to get a hat-trick or someone else is going to score and we’ll end up winning comfortably.

“It is going to come and we’re all confident it’s going to happen – the players and the manager.

“We’re all behind him and we’re all buying into what him and his staff are trying to do – and I think we have showed that in the last three games, especially. We’ve given it everything.

“Cardiff, I don’t know how we didn’t win that game, then we went to Brighton, and we had so many chances, and against Bolton, we’ve had one cleared off the line, hit the bar, and had other chances.

“It’s massively disappointing that we’ve not won yet but we are fighting for the shirt and for the fans – and we are creating chances. I don’t think we’re stuck for ideas.

“We can mix our game up and that’s what the gaffer has told us to do. We’re trying to pass it and sometimes go long or throw it in.

“We’re trying to use different things and I’m sure it will come.”

Rovers fell one place to fourth from bottom on Saturday after Fulham won 3-1 at Rotherham United.

Bowyer travelled to the New York Stadium to scout Fulham, his side’s next opponents on September 13.

He will have to start Rovers’ preparations for the Craven Cottage clash without Modou Barrow, Lee Williamson and Darragh Lenihan after they became the latest players from his squad to receive international call-ups.

Midfielder Williamson, at the age of 33, will be hoping to win his first cap for Jamaica after he was selected for their 2018 World Cup qualifiers with Nicaragua on September 4 and 8.

On-loan Swansea City winger Barrow has been named in the Gambia squad for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at home to Cameron on September 6.

And the versatile Lenihan will be part of the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for their UEFA U21 Championship qualifier in Andorra on September 8.

Captain and centre-back Grant Hanley, right-back Adam Henley, on-loan Leicester City striker Tom Lawrence, and midfielder Corry Evans will also be away with their countries.
