I THINK Blackburn must fight and tooth and nail to keep Jordan Rhodes now that it looks like Rudy Gestede is off.

Yes getting rid of Rudy and then Jordan for big money may see the club’s Financial Fair Play embargo being lifted.

But, even if it was, how do you replace 40 goals?

Look at Liverpool when they lost Luis Suarez. They spent all the money they received for him and were none the better for it.

Now I don’t think Blackburn would be able to spend all the money they would get for Rudy and Jordan if the embargo was lifted.

But, even if they were able to spend a large percentage of it, it would be almost impossible to find two players who can each get 20 goals, at this stage of the summer, and for the right money.

I know Jordan was unhappy at not being allowed to speak to Middlesbrough but I just hope that he will remain committed because he has been looked after by Blackburn.

I’d say to him, give it another transfer window, but the problem is, I’ve been saying that for a while now.

He’s done it season in, season out, and proved he’s the best goalscorer outside of the Premier League.

At some stage somebody is going to take him and at some stage Jordan will want to go.

It seems that he feels Middlesbrough offer him a better chance of getting to the Premier League and I suppose that is understandable as they are throwing a lot of money around.

But they’re not the only ones in the Championship.

That makes it all the harder for clubs like Blackburn.

But their job will be made all the more difficult if Jordan follows Rudy out of the door.

I’m pleased for Rudy but surprised that a club as big as Aston Villa has come in for him.

Tim Sherwood will get the best out of him. I’ve known Tim since he was at Blackburn and he’s a good fella and I’m sure he’s a good manager.

But Rudy should not forget that it’s Blackburn and Gary Bowyer who have helped make him a Premier League player.
