BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer was in danger of sounding like a broken record after watching his side throw away more points in drawing 3-3 at home to Nottingham Forest yesterday.

Top-scorer Rudy Gestede put Rovers ahead on three separate occasions with a magnificent hat-trick of headers that took his tally for the term up to 19.

But on each occasion Forest were allowed back into the match thanks to a toxic combination of slack pressing, marking, tracking and clearing.

Rovers’ latest collapse came just four days after they were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City after twice taking the lead.

And ‘fuming’ Bowyer said: “To score three goals and not be talking about an impressive win, you have to understand my frustration and disappointment, especially having gone through similar on Tuesday night.

“If I was Rudy Gestede, I’d be absolutely fuming with my team-mates because I’ve scored a hat-trick and we aren’t talking about how that hat-trick won us the game.

“To score late on and be 3-2 up, it’s a case of seeing the game out. That’s when you need people to stand up and see the game out.

“It’s game understanding and a game know-how.”

It was the 10th time this season Rovers have failed to take three points after going in front.

And Bowyer, who is working under an embargo after the club failed Financial Fair Play, was asked whether he has enough leaders in his side.

He said: “It’s something we’ve certainly looked at in the last couple of weeks.

"Obviously the embargo we’re under limits that but that’s something in the last couple of weeks we’ve identified our recruitment department to target – somebody or some players of that ilk because that is apparent it’s what needs to happen in the summer.”

Rovers’ third successive draw – they are now unbeaten in the league in four matches but they have failed to win any of their last four games in all competitions at home – means they remain ninth in the Championship going into Tuesday’s home clash with relegation-threatened Millwall.

Forest, who have failed to win any of their last six games and are also under an FFP embargo, are one point further back in 11th.

And their manager Dougie Freedman, who won seven of his first 10 matches in charge after taking over the City Ground reins in February, said: “It was the best we’ve played since I’ve been here.

“I think defensively, we couldn’t cope with Gestede but also in their box, we’ve had five or six great chances to win this game of football.

“We were too hot to handle today. The spirit is there, the quality is there, we just need to make sure we’re better in both boxes.

“Our play today, you've seen it was fantastic. We controlled the game possession-wise.

“It was a great advertisement for the Championship. I just have to get some more ingredients in that pot to make sure in both boxes, we’re better.”
