FIVE men have been arrested following a gang battle on the South Side of Glasgow.

The men, three aged 24 and the others 28 and 38, are being questioned about a large-scale disturbance in Govan last month. One man is still being sought.

Weapons seized by Strathclyde Police including a machete, meat clever and baseball bats.

Officers targeted six homes during early morning raids on Tuesday. Det Sgt Steven Kattenhorn of the Violence Reduction Task Force said the operation aimed to break the circle of violence by disrupting gangs.

He said: "We have been able to arrest five males and seize evidence from their homes.

"The action taken by local community officers and the Violence Reduction Task Force is an example of how we work with partner agencies to improve the quality of life for the people of Govan.

"By working together we can continue to provide public safety and reassurance as well as demonstrate that behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated.

Last month more than 20 homes in the East End were raided following the discovery of gang fight footage on social networking sites showing youths fighting.

Heavily-armoured teams of about 700 officers forced their way into the suspects' homes.
