IRAQ: The leader in Iraq of terrorist group al Qaida has been wounded and an aide killed in a clash north of Baghdad, says the Interior Ministry.
The clash happened near Balad, a major American base about 50 miles north of the capital, said Brigadier General Abdul-Karim Khalaf .
He said Abu Ayyub al-Masri was wounded and his aide, identified as Abu Abdullah al-Majemaai, was killed.
But the brigadier general declined to say how Iraqi forces knew al-Masri had been injured, and there was no report on the incident from US authorities.
