AN INTERNATIONAL police search for a missing man is focused on Glasgow's South Side.

John Coll, 56, is a well-known figure in Govanhill despite retiring to Donegal seven years ago.

The former owner of Coll's Carriers wound up his Glasgow removal firm and moved from Govanhill to Ireland after suffering serious ill health.

But he disappeared from his home near Letterkenny on January 5.

His family fear that John, who has a illness which can leave him confused, could be sleeping rough on Glasgow streets.

A search by the Garda, or Irish police, Interpol and police here, has failed to trace the former businessman who needs access to vital medication.

Now his cousin Rose McFadden, 47, of Toryglen, Glasgow, has pleaded with people who may know John to help in the search.

Ms McFadden has posted notices in Govanhill's Albert Road area and in streets near Neeson's bar in Allison Street where he was a regular.

Today she said: "It may be that John has seen old friends at the pub and they don't know that he's been missing.

"He can get confused and forget to eat and if he's very ill, he might just lie down where he is."

Garda inspector Pat O'Donnell said: "We are asking anyone who has seen him recently to get in touch."

John is 5ft 10ins in tall, slim and has receding hair. When last seen he was wearing a brown leather jacket and light trousers.

Anyone who can help should phone 0035374 91 22222 or contact their local police station.
