SAGA 105.2fm is soon to be no more after the new owner of the Dennistoun-based radio station opted to re-brand.

From the middle of March it will be known as Smooth Radio.

Owner GMG announced in December it had bought Saga for an undisclosed sum, but the acquisition was only formally completed this week.

GMG also owns Real Radio and new rock station 96.3 Rock Radio.

GMG already runs two Smooth fm stations in London and the North West. But the "fm" is to be dropped from all the Smooth stations.

John Myers, chief executive of GMG, said: "It's clear that more listeners are tuning in across a number of platforms and not just on fm."

A spokesman for the firm added: "Significant marketing will be invested in the launch as GMG re-positions the stations to offer greater appeal to a more mature audience."

The new Saga licence for the North East, due to launch in the autumn, will also be named Smooth Radio.
