PUPILS in East Renfrewshire are to benefit from major investment in the area's schools.

Youngsters at Isobel Isobel Mair School in Clarkston and Thornliebank's Glen Centre can look forward to classes in a combined £10million school by 2010.

A £6m revamp of Eastwood High School in Newton Mearns is also due to be completed in 2011 as part of a five-year £73m investment programme by the council.

Other projects in the 2007-12 spending plan include a £326,000 facility for young people in Newton Mearns, £1m worth of roads improvements and a £350,000 extension to Eaglesham Community Library.

A further £21.2m will be ploughed into a major regeneration plan for Barrhead.

Council leader Jim Fletcher said: "These projects will make a difference to the quality of life of people across the area."
