HOLIDAYMAKERS will be able to jet from Glasgow to the sunshine beaches of Ibiza for less than £55 return this summer.

Budget airline easyJet is launching a weekly service on June 16. A single ticket - including taxes - will cost from £31.99p with a return flight priced from £53.98.

The move could spark a price war with low-cost rivals flyglobespan, who launched twice-weekly flights to the island last summer.

Today's announcement comes after easyJet introduced flights from Glasgow to Alicante, Malaga and Palma.

EasyJet UK general manager David Osborne said today: "Ibiza has already proved a popular summer destination from many of our other UK bases. Now even more holidaymakers can fly there easily from their local airport."

Glasgow Airport managing director Alan Barr welcomed the addition to the choice of destinations.

He said: "This is the fourth new international service announced by easyJet from Glasgow in the past year and obviously reflects their growing confidence in the city.

"We look forward to working with easyJet, and other airlines, to ensure our international route network continues to grow in 2007."

In the past year, international traffic has grown by almost 80,000 at Glasgow Airport. Passenger numbers have increased to 8.8 million.
