MAN-OF-THE-MATCH Ross McCormack today described scoring his first goal for Scotland as "a dream come true" after helping keep his country's World Cup dream alive.

The Cardiff striker netted the opener in the 2-1 victory over Iceland, a win that moved Scotland up to second in qualifying Group Nine.

"It's massive for me," said McCormack. "It's a bit of a dream come true. First start at Hampden, first goal.

"I've dreamed of that since I was a kid and it was nice that my family and fiancee were there to see it as well."

He added: "I was a little bit nervous at the end. We were kind of hanging on; they brought the big fellow Armann Smari Bjornsson on and he won a few flick-ons. But I felt we deserved it. We created a lot of chances and could have won by a slightly bigger margin."

Of Scotland's prospect of finishing second in the group behind Holland, McCormack said: "It does do is put us in a hell of a position."
