HAMILTON midfielder Simon Mensing has picked up an extra one-match ban after being sent off in yesterday's reserve clash with St Mirren.

Mensing, in the middle of a two-match first-team suspension, was dismissed for violent conduct in the 2-1 defeat at McKenna Park.

He will now sit out Saturday's SPL game with Saints and the April 4 trip to Celtic.

lUefa have no plans to create a European Super League to replace the Champions League and new Europa League, a senior official today confirmed.

Speculation has been rife that the governing body was considering plans to introduce a new competition.

It is believed the topic was discussed at a Uefa Strategy Meeting in Switzerland.

France Football has quoted Uefa president Michel Platini as saying they wanted to create a continental league.

And Gazzetta dello Sport claimed the project had backing from senior officials.

However, a spokesman said: "People should not mix up the philosophy and the reality. As far as the president is concerned such a proposal is a non-starter.

"He (Platini) is always open to dialogue and to look at ways of adapting and improving Uefa competitions in line with the times.

"But he has his own philosophy and beliefs about the game and one such belief is that he is dead set against a super league."

France Football quoted Platini as saying: "Everybody knows my thought on European competitions. But the world is changing. We must be careful."
