CHRIS PATERSON was today recalled to the Scotland side for Saturday's RBS 6 Nations clash with Ireland - but head coach Frank Hadden delayed finalising his selection at second row.

Paterson, Scotland's record points scorer and most capped player, was controversially left out of the starting line-up for the opening three games of the championship.

He comes in for Edinburgh team-mate Hugo Southwell at full-back, one of two definite changes from the team which beat Italy just over a week ago.

The other sees Alasdair Dickinson replace fellow prop Allan Jacobsen, who underwent shoulder surgery last week and will be out for up to four months.

Four second-row forwards have been bracketed for the two lock starting positions from Jason White, Al Kellock, Jim Hamilton and Nathan Hines.

Team: 15 Chris Paterson (Edinburgh), 14 Simon Danielli (Ulster), 13 Max Evans (Glasgow), 12 Graeme Morrison (Glasgow), 11 Thom Evans (Glasgow), 10 Phil Godman (Edinburgh), 9 Mike Blair (Edinburgh, captain), 1 Alasdair Dickinson (Gloucester), 2 Ross Ford (Edinburgh), 3 Euan Murray (Northampton Saints), Locks from Jim Hamilton (Edinburgh), Nathan Hines (Perpignan), Alastair Kellock (Glasgow and Jason White (Sale Sharks), 6 Alasdair Strokosch (Gloucester), 8 Simon Taylor (Stade Francais), 7 John Barclay (Glasgow).

TENNIS: Andy Murray hopes to play in the first Masters Series event of the season in Indian Wells this week.

The British No.1 has been laid low with a virus, which saw him pull out of the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships and the Davis Cup defeat by Ukraine.

But Murray wants to challenge for a third Masters Series title. He said: "Not 100% yet, but feeling better for sure." Mark Petchey, Murray's former coach, wants to see the LTA disbanded. He would like a group of eight, led by former world No.4 Tim Henman and including Judy Murray (mum of Andy), put in charge of the nation's tennis finances.
