Travellers were facing more misery today after budget airline Flybe cancelled flights in and out of Glasgow.

Hundreds of people were hit by late cancellations on Friday evening and four flights from the city were cancelled today.

A 10.20am flight to Norwich was cancelled, along with three later Manchester flights.

Planes had been grounded on Friday and the company cancelled 11 flights over the weekend for safety checks after two Q400 planes belonging to another airline suffered crash landings in Denmark and Lithuania.

As reported in Saturday's Times, Flybe contacted some customers by text to say there was a technical fault after Bombardier, makers of the Q400, asked Flybe to carry out inspections on the plane's landing gear.

A spokeswoman for Flybe said: "Safety checks have been carried out on the planes, but we are still trying to clear a backlog. We cannot say when services will return to normal.

"Passengers affected by today's cancellations have been offered refunds or booked on later flights."
