AVRIL LAVIGNE swept into Glasgow last night to wow a sold-out venue - eventually!

The Canadian songstress was late on-stage due to her sound check over-running, but overcame that to blast out her greatest hits to the all-ages crowd.

Strolling on stage with dancers gyrating in front of her, she went straight into her infectious smash Girlfriend.

Her enthusiasm was evident, as she skipped across stage while her breakthrough hit Complicated sent the audience into raptures.

Praising the crowd, Avril said: "I'm just a girl from Canada and it's amazing to come over here and that you know my songs. You guys rock!"

A bundle of energy throughout, her cheerful antics even extended to performing cartwheels during I Always Get What I Want.

But when the pace slowed, Lavigne's flaws became evident, especially on the wildly overblown power balled When You're Gone.

And while letting her get behind the drums for Runaway and a quick blast of Toni Basil's Hey Mickey may have seemed a good idea in practice, it just proved that singing and drumming should be kept separate.

She's much better on upbeat, zesty numbers and luckily the closing punky bubblegum pop of Sk8r Boi meant a fun end to a mixed night.
