ONE of Britain's best loved artists has died at the age of 81.
Beryl Cook, who was famed for her humorous portraits of men and women, passed away peacefully at her home in Plymouth.
The artist exhibited widely and three of her paintings are on regular display at Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art.
Mark O'Neill, the Head of Museums at Culture and Sport Glasgow, said: "The city commissioned three works from Beryl to mark the opening of GoMA in 1996, reflecting the affinity between her sense of humour and Glasgow's ability to laugh at itself."
Cook had no formal art training. She took up painting in the early 1970s and was awarded an OBE in 1995.
