AS Prime Minister, Gordon Brown can seemingly do no wrong. He's in the job he has long wanted, he's ahead in the polls and has wrong-footed David Cameron - and now women are falling in love with his mellifluous brogue.

A group of women on the social networking website, Facebook, have made their feelings known - and there's no mistaking the extent of their affections.

The group, for a start, goes under the title of Say what you like about Gordon Brown - he has a sexy voice on the radio. Deep and rugged. Gruff!"

Ambiguous it isn't.

Brown's measured tones even moved one woman to make a personal suggestion that would surely make this son of the manse blush.

The PM is not, of course, the first Scot to be lauded for his voice. Sir Sean Connery has long been fabled for his deep growl, while Ewan McGregor's voice also has its share of enthusiasts.

Indeed, a poll last year to find the sexiest voice in the country was topped by Sir Sean and newsreader Anna Ford. Anna was named as the person with the sexiest voice by almost half the 500 men questioned, followed by Joanna Lumley. Women, on the other hand, voted for Connery, followed by Pierce Brosnan, another retired 007.

Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney came bottom.

Other we love or loathe are Robbie Williams, Tom Jones, David Beckham, Jonathan Ross, Mariella Frostrup and Janet Street-Porter. Older film fans used to fall for the vocal charms of such actors as Richard Burton and James Mason.

Putting on our huskiest voice - a fetching cross between Sean Connery and Wayne Rooney - we asked: who has the sexiest voice of all? The PM's brogue turns women weak at the knees, but who does it for you? STEPHEN NEVILLE, 21, student, Hamilton I love Lorraine Kelly. The way she's always to bright and perky in the morning with her Scottish accent. She really brightens you up for the day. Though my mates will slag me! MARIE FLETCHER, 32, accounts assistant, City Centre Certainly not Gordon Brown! It has to be Colin Farrell. Everyone loves an Irish accent - it's universally popular with women. EMMA FURNESS, 28, council worker, Scotstoun Colin Farrell. I could listen to him talk all day and be happy. And look at him all day! It's that Irish accent. I don't know why it is but all women get swept away by an Irish accent. CRAIG BALFOUR, 21, engineer, Hamilton KT Tunstall stands out for me. She has a really gravelly, husky voice that's sexy. And her singing voice is hot as well, her songs are great. MARTIN DONALD, 17, student, Whiteinch I'd have to say Cameron Diaz. She's stunning in every way and she has a really sexy laugh. I like everything about her, not just her voice. JULIE PATTERSON, 31, Administrator, City Centre I love Alan Rickman. His voice is quite sensual, I think. Very deep and intelligent sounding. WILLIAM BRECHAN, 62, retired, Ibrox Cherie Blair has the voice for me. She sounds very intelligent and authoratitive. That does it for me. Her or Alex Salmond. VICKY TIBBITT, 25, works at Strathclyde Uni, Queen's Park Christian Slater and George Clooney would have to fight it out for sexiest voice. I couldn't choose. Christian has that really deep voice but George is perfect in every way.
