THE Prince of Wales was today visiting a Georgian building in Glasgow which has been transformed with his help.

He will be given a tour of Castlemilk Stables, the only remnant of the Castlemilk estate in Glasgow as part of a visit to Scotland.

Built in 1790 by the architect David Hamilton, the B-listed building in Machrie Road was saved from demolition in the 1970s but by the 1990s its roof had collapsed.

After being set on fire and vandalised countless times restoration work finally began in 2005.

The community as well as the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust had campaigned for a decade for it to be revamped and it was brought back to life thanks to a £4.2million refurbishment.

The Prince's Regen-eration Trust helped pay for the work which was completed in 2007.

The Prince was also to be entertained at the National Piping Centre in Cowcaddens, of which he is patron and attend an Asian Business Seminar.

His wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was carrying out engagements in Dundee and Edinburgh.
