GLASGOW may have escaped any flurries of snow recently, but the temperatures have still forced many motorists to turn to their de-icer and scrapers in the morning.

For the rest of us, snow usually means a frozen wait for the delayed bus or train held up by the snow.

It has always been that way - as this picture from January 1945 shows.

Passengers, wrapped up well against the bitter winter weather, wait ages for a tram and then find a bunch of them arrive all at once.

Sadly for these weary would-be commuters, the trams were not going anywhere because they were reserved for somewhere else!
