INCREASED efforts to make Glasgow city centre safer through additional use of CCTV must be more than cosmetic.
The cameras and taped recordings are a valuable aid to spotting potential trouble and mounting successful prosecutions.
Regrettably, that has not happened often enough in areas already covered by video equipment.
On too many occasions violent attacks have taken place and nothing has been done or the response to the possibility of them happening has been ignored.
These additional security measures are welcome but they will only become an effective deterrent when they are backed up by quicker police action. Read more into this good idea
THE Strowan Street concierges reflect the real spirit of Glasgow's tower blocks, tenements and housing schemes.
Their efforts in setting up a library for people living in the block they look after is an excellent example of what social responsibility actually means.
They are helping bring people together through sharing a mutual resource.
The books have already been bought and the concierges are simply helping making sure they are more widely read.
This cooperative idea deserves more recognition, particularly if it encourages more people to read.
